Blinken returns to Israel

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – A leak of classified documents containing Israel’s plans for a strike against Iran, has prompted an investigation from the FBI.

“The investigation is in its first few days, so it’s important to let that investigation run its course,” Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, Pentagon Press Secretary, said.

The leak included documents that indicated Israeli military exercises to prepare for an attack on Iran and a counterattack. The Pentagon is working closely with the FBI but would not elaborate.

“Because it’s under investigation, I’m just not going to be able to offer any more comment,” Ryder said.

This comes as Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in the Middle East, in hopes of reviving ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas.

“I believe very much that the death of Sinwar does create an important opportunity,” Blinken told reporters.

Blinken met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as Israel wages its multi-front war, with a military operation in Gaza and a battle with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

“He’s certainly talking about the issues surrounding Lebanon while he is on his travel,” State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said.

Israel has escalated its assault on Lebanon in the past few days, hitting banks and hospitals. The State Department says Israel should take steps to destroy Hezbollah, but “every possible measure needs to be taken to, minimize impact on civilians-to minimize, civilian casualties.”

Blinken is urging Netanyahu to reach a peaceful outcome in Gaza, as Gaza’s Health Ministry reports, more than 42,000 people have died since the war started.
