WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President-elect Donald Trump has named a new pick for attorney general after former congressman Matt Gaetz withdrew from consideration amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
Trump named former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi to be his new pick for attorney general. She was part of Trump’s defense team during his first impeachment trial.
“He will finish what he started to keep this a real land of opportunity for everyone.,” said Bondi.
Pete Hegseth, Trump’s pick for defense secretary, was on Capitol Hill Thursday meeting with senators.
“I want to thank the President of the United States for this amazing and humbling opportunity,” said Hegseth.
This was the first time he spoke publicly about his alleged sexual assault of a woman in 2017. A newly released police report includes details of an encounter he says was consensual.
“The matter was fully investigated, and I was completely cleared,” said Hegseth.
Bondi will begin the process of meeting with senators as they consider her.
