GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A Triad city is once again getting high marks when it comes to LGBTQ+ equity.
The City of Greensboro announced on Monday that Greensboro scored 100 points on the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Municipal Equality Index. This is the fourth consecutive year that Greensboro has gotten a perfect score on the MEI.
The MEI is designed to rank cities based on different cities’ laws, policies and services, ranking them in five categories. These categories are all based on the municipalities’ inclusivity of LGBTQ+ citizens.
“This year, a record-breaking 130 cities or more than 25 percent of all MEI-rated cities earned the highest score of 100,” the release from the city says.
Greensboro scored highest among the following index categories:
Non-Discrimination Laws
Municipal Services
Law Enforcement
Leadership on LGBTQ+ Equality
Greensboro was the only city that racked up a perfect score in 2024. The next highest, a 93, was awared to Chapel Hill. The lowest-ranked city in North Carolina was Fayetteville, at 47.
