NTSB leads investigation into deadly DC plane crash

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — Federal leaders are launching an investigation into the deadly plane crash that happened late Wednesday night in Washington, D.C.

President Donald Trump says his administration is working to get answers and he’s suggesting diversity policies may be to blame.

“We’ll get to the bottom of it,” said Trump.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading an investigation into how the American Airlines plane collided with the military helicopter.

“We do not know enough facts to be able to rule in or out human factor, mechanical factors. That is part of the NTSB investigative process,” said NTSB member J. Todd Inman.

Investigators say there are no survivors among the 64 people on the plane or three soldiers on the helicopter.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says their families deserve to know why.

“We commit to them that we are going to get to the bottom of this investigation. Not in three years, not in four years, but as quickly as possible,” said Duffy.

President Trump says he doesn’t know exactly how this deadly crash happened, but he suggested the Biden administration and their diversity policies could be to blame.

“We’re going to look into that and we’re going to see. But certainly, for an air traffic controller, we want the brightest, the smartest, the sharpest,” President Trump said.

He also attacked former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for how he led the department.

On Thursday, President Trump signed a memo ordering an assessment of aviation safety and an elevation of competence over DEI.
