Trump previews his 2nd term agenda

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President-elect Donald Trump is previewing what’s to come in his second term at the White House.

He gave a robust speech over the weekend to young supporters at the Turning Point USA conference.

President- elect Trump is promising what he calls a common-sense revolution when he takes office next year.

He detailed an extensive of list of familiar priorities like rolling back federal regulations and leaning into culture war issues in the military and outlining his plans on transgender policy.

“Jan. 20 will truly be liberation day in America,” said Trump.

President-elect Trump is counting down the days until he takes back the White House.

He pledged to enact a sweeping agenda starting at the southern border.

“On my first day, I will sign a historic slate of executive orders to close our border…we will begin the largest deportation operation in American history,” said Trump.

He told the crowd he will make it official U.S. policy to have just two genders.

“Get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools,” said Trump.

He vowed to dismantle diversity equity and inclusion policies in the public and private sector.

“In America, we believe in the merit system,” said Trump.

Democrats are gearing up for Trump’s return to Washington.

“I think we’re in for some really rough sailing,” said Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.).

Senator Chris Coons said Trump could have a difficult time getting his agenda through.

” It’s going to be difficult for them to pass much of the President-elect Trump’s ambitious agenda, on straight party line votes,” said Coons.

Last week House Republicans, unable to unite behind a spending plan were forced to work with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown.  That comes even after Trump and Elon Musk publicly pressured House Republicans to ditch a bipartisan spending deal. The short-term plan keeps the government funded until March.  Democrats expect a grueling inner party fight among Republicans when that deadline approaches.
